The incredible Baltimore Spectator live police standoff

Last night my friend the Baltimore Spectator (James MacArthur) was visited by Baltimore police. He broadcast most of the situation live on his site. You can hear the last hour or so here. WBAL has a summary here.

Fast-forward to the 1 hour and 46 minute mark and you can hear the start of the broadcast: click here.

The entire archived broadcast is here.

Baltimore Sun comment section commenter “Cham101” summed it up pretty nicely:

“The Baltimore City cops went on a witch hunt and James MacArthur took us all along for the ride. His outstanding warrant was issued in June and nobody noticed. When Mr. MacArthur was made aware of the warrant this week he started to tweet about it publicly, that is when the police department got agitated, surrounded his house, set up the barricade and called in the SWAT team.

There are currently 40,000 outstanding other warrants the Baltimore police department enthusiastically ignores.”

There are currently 40,000 outstanding warrants the Baltimore police department enthusiastically ignores. It is very interesting that they bring in the SWAT team for a harmless middle aged man. In the end of the day because of all the media coverage (some of it national) James MacArthur comes out ahead.
