Downtown is the 401?

I was reading the Urbanite and I noticed an advertisement for Downtown Baltimore. “Downtown is the 401” is the slogan the ad used. It sounded and looked cool, but I had no idea what “401” meant. So I went to the website: http://the401.org/.

“401” is the census tract number for downtown Baltimore. That makes sense.  I like this marketing initiative. I have been a in a few downtown apartments that used to be used for non-residential purposes and I have been impressed with what I have seen. There is nothing wrong with turning an empty commercial building into luxury apartments. One thing I have noticed is that every downtown luxury apartment I have been in has been occupied by a person who grew up outside of the Baltimore area.

Have a great weekend!
